Petra’s artistic training began by attending the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel. Between 1973 and 1976, she studied communication design before moving into fine arts and free graphics (etching, lithography, drawing, and illustration) from 1977 to 1982. In 1977, she and Andreas began to work together on etchings with exhibitions in both Germany and Italy. By 1981, they settled in Sardinia where they built their home studio.

Andreas has had a passion for art beginning during his youth, experimenting with mixed media painting and sculpture with disparate materials such as stone, ceramic and marble. After encountering other artists in their region producing porcelain artwork, Petra and Andreas acquired their first kiln for firing small pieces themselves. They became fascinated with Raku from the first moment they encountered it because of its experimental qualities and the abstract nature of its creation.
